What settings do I need for this? Hrm Standard Power Cycle Procedure (replace PC below with iMac) Turn everything off – cable modem, router, PC(s) – and let them sit for a few minutes. If you have a modem that has a battery backup (telephony modems often do), press and hold its reset button until the modem reboots itself. The order in which you do the following steps is critical - don't improvise!

Turn on the cable modem, and let it come all the way up. Connect the WAN port (the one that’s by itself) of the router to the cable modem, and turn on the router. Wait for the router to come all the way up. Connect your PC to one of the LAN ports (there are usually 4 of them, grouped together), on the router. Repeat for any other hard-wired PCs. If you are not using a router, connect the PC to the modem and boot the PC. Last, if you are using wifi, boot up your wireless PC/laptop and let it find the wireless signal.

Once it’s working properly, check the top thread in the Home Networking forum about how to secure the wireless connection and prevent others from stealing your bandwidth. MAke sure you pull the power cord from the podem, don't just trun it off at the power button.

Unplug the AEBS as well. Plug in the modem and allow it to sync with the network (let the lights stabilize). Next, plug in the AEBS and do the same. Now start up your iMac. You should now be online with an open network.

Open Airport Utility and configure the security on the AEBS. EDIT: and like Fishman said, if it's a telephone modem, there's a pinhole reset button on the back. Use a paperclip of something small to reset the modem.

Then continue powering up the AEBS. The main issue is with the modem usually. It allows one device an IP address, which it stores in its cache. Usb driver download. It learns the MAC address (media access control) of the first device connected to it at boot up; in your case it's stored the MAC address of your iMac.

You need to clear that MAC address from the cache so the modem can learn the MAC address of your AEBS and give it the IP address from Comcast. You do this by resetting or power cycling the modem. You probably didn't have this issue before with DSL because your DSL provider allowed more than one public IP address. Comcast, like most cablecos, only allots one per residential account (unless you pay for more). EDIT: Remember, if you have phone service through Comcast (you didn't say what kind of modem you have), the modem has a battery backup in it.

In that case, you need to hit the reset button on the back. Ok, let's see. I have a cable modem, but didn't mention the model, if that's what's needed: Motorola sb5101 SURFboard Cable Modem. I disconnected it from the power cord and the ethernet cable and let it sit for over 30 minutes before connecting to the AEBS, which had also been disconnected.
